On July 10th, 2024, the AbSec NAIDOC Family Fun Day brought together over 1,800 attendees at PCYC Marrickville for a day filled with joy, culture, and community spirit. This year’s event, themed “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud” celebrated the unyielding spirit of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The day was packed with cultural performances, fun activities, and opportunities for community connection. Attendees enjoyed traditional music, dance, and storytelling, as well as hands-on workshops like weaving and boomerang painting. Our young attendees enjoyed a jumping castle, the Reverse Garbage Loose Parts Play session, engaging local stalls, delicious food, face painting and even a reptile and farm animal petting zoo.
The 2024 theme is a celebration of the unyielding spirit of our communities, an invitation to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have been silenced for too long. The fire represents the enduring strength and vitality of Indigenous cultures, passed down through generations despite the challenges faced.
A special thank you to Georgia Brogan and Aussie Industries for capturing the joy of the 2024 event.
The success of AbSec’s 2024 NAIDOC Family Fun Day would not have been possible without the generous support of our Bunjil and Ngalawa sponsors and the dedication of our volunteers and stallholders.Â
